Our mission is to provide a positive and safe environment that inspires students to become responsible, well-rounded, civic-minded, global thinkers who are equipped with 21st century skills and are prepared for the academic rigors of high school and future challenges.
He is wise who knows the sources of knowledge -- where it is written and where it is to be found.
- A.A. Hodge
Hi everyone! My name is Mrs. Spahn, and I am the School Library Media Specialist at the Lewis F. Cole Middle School. As a veteran of the middle school, I am extremely excited to be teaching a myriad of 21st century information literacy skills to our 7th and 8th grade students. Since I believe that all learners should be encouraged to question everything, my first goal is to empower students with the information literacy skills necessary to answer these questions and any others they may have over the course of their educational careers and beyond.
My second goal is to cultivate a lifetime love of reading. Students will be encouraged to check out books from our collection of more than 9,000 fiction and nonfiction texts and to participate in some of our reading incentive programs throughout the year. The media center’s “Suggestion Box” at the circulation counter also welcomes ideas for new titles.
My last goal is to ensure the academic and social success of all students by continuing to provide a diverse collection of print and electronic resources. Currently, the middle school media center subscribes to several databases, encyclopedias, and newspapers. Each is accessible in school and remotely from home with a user name and password. Students will receive the access codes during their first visit to the media center. Links to each database are posted on the middle school media center's main web page.
Thanks for visiting and I look forward to another great year!
